Counting on Liberal Endorsements?
- Posted by Justin Higgins on February 6th, 2007
A fellow Conservative blogger here in Ohio has brought up the fact that an old Republican Governor from Massachusetts has decided to endorse Rudy Giuliani instead of Mitt Romney for President. Via Boston Globe...
Former Massachusetts governor Paul Cellucci told the Globe yesterday that he is supporting former New York City mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani for president over Mitt Romney -- even though Romney called Cellucci and asked for his endorsement in a meeting two weeks ago.
... Giuliani's staff, which is preparing for the former mayor's debut on the New Hampshire campaign trail tonight, was quick to tout the endorsement as a sign of Romney's weakness and Giuliani's growing appeal.
Now, my friend Eric from Right Angle Blog is quick to point out something that's on a lot of minds, and that's that this endorsement is bad news for Romney. Is it really? Am I supposed to be surprised that a liberal Republican Governor from a liberal state endorsed a liberal Republican Mayor instead of a Conservative from his own state? Am I supposed to be surprised that ideology trumped state loyalty? No. Liberal endorsements don't make or break a Republican candidate. Romney is fine.
