Hillary Slides to Her Old Self
- Posted by Justin Higgins on February 7th, 2007
For weeks and weeks we have been bombarded with stories about how Hillary Clinton has been sliding to the Center. She was making a calculated move to try to bring up her poll numbers. Republicans weren't about to convert to Clintonistas though and her numbers only dropped as Democrats got upset with her slide. Now she's reverting to normal Hillary form.
HILLARY LUNGES LEFTWARD: ABANDONS CENTRISM
As the Democratic Party presidential aspirants finished their speeches last week to the Democratic Party winter meeting, the early big political fact is the dangerous populist and anti-war pull that the candidates feel. This is particularly dangerous for Sen. Hillary Clinton as she ratchets up, almost weekly, her anti-war Iraqi rhetoric and policy.
She has shrewdly understood, at least since she entered the Senate in 2001, that the Achilles' heel of every Democratic Party presidential candidate since George McGovern in 1972 has been the appearance of weakness regarding American national defense and national security.
The article goes on to talk about how Hillary has attempted to appeal Conservative on national security. She's playing with a double-edged sword however. She sits on the Armed Services Committee while criticizing the very war she voted for. Simply put, she's being two-faced and she's getting caught by both sides. If Hillary is the nominee, Republicans will excel in 2008.
