Defending Romney's Maturity
- Posted by Justin Higgins on February 10th, 2007
A site called Political Grind, a supposedly bipartisan blog trying to re-establish themselves in the blogosphere, sent me an e-mail recently. They asked about blogads but also asked about promoting their relaunch. I had been to the site before, so I decided to stop on over to see what they had brewing. Immediately my attention was drawn to a post attacking Governor Mitt Romney.
If Republicans want a reason why they shouldn’t support Governor Romney, it’s not his religious beliefs that should bother them.
Governor Romney is the political equivalent of Senator Kerry, with one exception: Mr. Kerry has been a consistent liberal. Mr. Romney on the other hand has not been a consistent conservative.
They attack Romney for not being consistent, but neither was one of our greatest Conservative Presidents, Ronald Reagan. Governor Reagan began his political life as a Democrat, and quickly became disenchanted with their ways of tax, take, and defeat. Likewise, Romney matured religiously and politically to become the man he is today. Romney has said he matured, much as many liberal teens mature into strong Conservative adults. Romney didn't flip, flop, and flip back like Kerry did on several issues. Romney has built a strong character, which is only getting stronger. His shift to the right came with wisdom, not for political gain.
