Scratched Laptop Screen...
- Posted by Justin Higgins on March 28th, 2007
My laptop screen is scratched and there are several people to blame, including Al Gore and the Instapundit. Allow me to explain. Quite a while ago, Glenn Reynolds suggested that people buy compact fluorescent energy-efficient bulbs. Well, my household ended up buying and installing them. That's alright, I don't mind. The thing is, I have a ceiling fan-light and prior to installing this bulb, we didn't need a light cover. The light wasn't bright enough to require covering, so we let it go and all was fine and good.
It was fine until we put one of the bulbs in my room and realized we'd need a light cover to prevent the harsh light from blinding me on a daily basis. Now, if you look at the picture to the left, you might wonder "what happened to the light cover?" It fell, struck me in the head, and struck my laptop screen leaving two small harmless (yet annoying) scratches. So, instead of blaming myself for running the fan when it's only 75 degrees in the house (the fan shook the light cover loose), I'm going to blame Glenn Reynolds for suggesting the bulbs and Al Gore (though I ignored Al and listened to Glenn). It's all Glenn's fault.

Maybe if you didnt live in a
Maybe if you didnt live in a dank, lightless cavern you would have light from a window?
I propose a MASSIVE online petition to get Justin's room switched with his younger, unamerican sister's room!!! VOTE NOW!
Or better yet, I propose you get a light of incredible wattage to counteract all those hippies who seem to think we're the caretakers of the earth or something. Perhaps a giant spotlight that could be seen from deep space? That would surely counteract the effect of those lightbulbs your parents bought! That's what Jesus would have done.
The logic is funny, however.
In the immortal words of Homer Simpson:
"It's everyone's fault but my own."
(Ya, I know you were being sarcastic, Justin. So was I actually. Go figure.)
This is too funny. Great
This is too funny. Great post, Justin.
Avoiding all the connections
Avoiding all the connections to Mr. Gore and the Instapundit, there is a solution to your annoyance, (the screen, not global warming or fluorescent bulb arguments =).
Use the buffer attachment to a dremel or similar tool and lightly take the scratches out of your screen.
Be sure to test the steadiness of your hand on a small corner/ edge of the screen before you go for the middle.
I have used mine to remove both scratches and smudged areas from abrasions.
Looks like JorgXMcKie
Looks like JorgXMcKie answered my question, I too changed a couple of the old bulbs for these fancy long-lasting, energy-saving bulbs.
Well, they didn't last the years i was assured they would, they cost a lot more and were dimmer than the equivalent el-cheapo blubs.
So i went back to cheap ones, the greenies can freeze the planet themselves.
Look, the Instapundit is
Look, the Instapundit is incredibly evil. I'm sure he foresaw this and now is giggling in the Instamansion now that you fell for his plan.
I blame Hillary, not sure
I blame Hillary, not sure why, but I still do!
Screw incandescence! I'm
Screw incandescence! I'm screwing in my fluorescents!...
Just as I am no Christian theologian, nor am I an electrical engineer. So this contentious Wiki argument over potential hidden costs of CFLs is largely lost on me. All I know is that my crackpot artistic side was fascinated......
How doggone big (wattage) is
How doggone big (wattage) is that fluorescent, anyway? I have replaced just about all the lights in my house, including in a ceiling fan with 4 light sockets. Unless we put 4 100 watt-equivalent fluorescents in it, the resulting light is *much* dimmer than the incadescent 75 watt bulbs they replaced.
You better check again. All
You better check again. All the instructions for such devices that I have seen have said that they are not to be used inside an enclosure.
