Fred Thompson Mania
- Posted by Justin Higgins on April 9th, 2007
There's now talk that Fred Thompson may be Another Ronald Reagan. Meanwhile, in the most recent Pajamas Media straw poll, Fred appears to have done well. They're calling it "Fred Mania." Plus the Wall Street Journal analyzes:
WASHINGTON -- If Fred Thompson decides to run for president, he will have some powerful supporters: The self-described "Tennessee Mafia," a group of Republican politicians from his home state well-versed in the craft of national campaigns. What the actor and former senator may lack is the financial juice that fired the group for more than a quarter century, driving local and national campaigns with astonishing amounts of cash.
"Mafia" members include Howard Baker, a former Republican senator, ambassador and White House chief of staff, who himself ran for president in 1980; Sen. Lamar Alexander, a former two-term Tennessee governor who ran for president in 1996 and 2000; and Bill Frist, the former Senate Republican majority leader, who considered, then rejected his own run for the White House for 2008.
I'm not too convinced that Fred can't hang on and wait a little longer. He's already being treated as the Conservative Messiah by half the party. What more could he want? He's still trailing Mitt Romney (at least as of the moment I publish this post), in my second Presidential run-off though:

I have no intention of
I have no intention of voting until you make it fair by including Duncan Hunter, who in my opinion is a true conservative not a "wet finger in the wind " like Romney ( who reminds me, disturbingly , of John Kerry ); nor is he an untested and unknown candidate like Fred Thompson .
Duncan Hunter is a conservative on all the important issues. He has researched the issues throughly and has laudable solutions. There are issues where Brownback is not on board with the other conservatives.
This poll is a run-off,
This poll is a run-off, meaning it's the top candidates from my last full poll. Duncan Hunter was in my last full poll, and didn't come in the top 3, thus he's not in the run-off. Stay tuned for my next full poll to cast your vote for Hunter.
