Major ROTR Updates
Ron Williams — Mon, 2009-08-31 11:50
ROTR has had one crazy weekend. We've updated our entire site to extend our conservative reach. During the downtime we performed the following:
- Created new and updated logo
- Moved to and modified new theme
- Merged Right Bump with ROTR
- Changed ROTR must-reads to Voted Links allowing user submissions and ratings
- Required login to post Voted Links and comments
- Added openid support
- Added CAPTCHA's to reduce spam
Right Bump is a conservative blog oriented social networking site, we decided that the features on that site would be very useful here, so we have combined the two sites. We're very excited to have the users of Right Bump on ROTR.
There were many considerations regarding requiring login for comments. I understand many are against requiring signup for comments, but with OpenID added to the site you can use a single login on numerous websites utilizing Blogger, WordPress (where enabled), Drupal (where enabled), and many others. We have also decided to require a CAPTCHA on submitting comments, Voted Links, user registration, and contact forms.
So how do these changes benefit you? You now have the ability to directly link your website from the front page of ROTR with a Voted Link. All you need to do is setup an account, create a Voted Link and depending on the number of votes your link receives, you will be listed on the front page. Be sure to login to see the new voting features!
In the next couple weeks we plan to add an aggregated front-page votes page which will drive even more traffic to your websites directly from other blogs.
Thanks for your patience during the upgrade and if you really like the new features, we would greatly appreciate you blogging about us!
New Bloggers
Ron Williams — Wed, 2009-01-07 19:23
Right On The Right has been on hiatus for the last few months since Justin Higgins moved on to other blogging ventures. We are now looking to find a new blogger interested in contributing content with the same dedication as Justin. ROTR receives approximately 200,000 hits per month.
The blog is presently hosted and managed free-of-charge by myself, Ron Williams of Lithic Media. I plan to continue all services with future design changes as directed by the new blogger who takes over. We welcome either single blogger or multiple bloggers for the site.
If you're interested in blogging here, please leave a comment or send an e-mail to ron@ronsnexus.com.
