Tales As An Eagle- Part Four
- Posted by Justin Higgins on August 13th, 2007 in

At the first Gathering of Eagles, there was plenty of conflict, debate, and argument. The ANSWER freaks, with their anarchist gear and "U.S. Out of Iraq NOW" signs, seemed more than willing to accuse us of racism, attack the President, and bash the Iraq War. What they weren't too good at was penetrating our lines and getting into our territory, which was their goal. No one approached the wall. What a couple of ANSWER folks did do however was cross the police-created lines and visit the Lincoln Memorial, an area that the Eagles had solid control of. In fact, our numbers were so solid that we had almost all of the Mall covered.
To the right, I've put together a map marking the area that each of our groups controlled. ANSWER was pretty much stuck in one little tract of land, while the Eagles roamed free across the mall, defending the Vietnam Wall, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean Memorial, and even the WWII Memorial which isn't pictured in the map. Remember all my pictures of Us. Vs. Them? Those pictures only portrayed the Eagles on the north side of the Lincoln Memorial. Thousands more roamed cross the mall, but the media ignored them, hence the media blackout on the true Eagle numbers. 30,000 were on our side, and only 10,000 on theirs, but when you ignore most of the Gathering, you end up with New York Times numbers, saying only hundreds of our folks showed up. It was idiocy.
Back to the story. Two ANSWER freaks, with their trademark yellow signs, decided to walk into the area around the Lincoln Memorial, not chanting, but walking amongst Vietnam Veterans and patriots, trying to start some sort of controversy. Several men walked up to them and told them, rather calmly, that they needed to get back across the road and into ANSWER territory. I heard one man plainly say "Listen buddy, you need to get back with your side." There was nothing intimidating in the way the Eagles handled the situation, despite what the anti-war folks would like us to believe. The two men pictured above were overwhelmed, surrounded by patriots, and I believe they had no clue how many Eagles they'd be walking into when they chose to cross "the DMZ". They walked the long way around the Lincoln Memorial and made their way back into ANSWER territory. Eagles stand proud while socialists and seditionists retreat.
So, it begs the question, are you going to stand strong as an Eagle on September 15th? If you can't get there, are you going to support the Eagles wherever they soar? Are you going to tell your family and friends the stories of the Eagles, the stories that the media doesn't want you to see? Eagles Up! on September 15th. My fundraising effort also carries on, if you'd like to help. Let's soar Eagles.

GOE1- Blue Sector
As the photographer for the Blue Sector team, myself and 7 other Eagles were the team protecting the WW2 Memorial area. Our patrol area was from the bathrooms, beside the GOE main stage area, east to the far end of the WW2 Memorial. From the Reflecting Pool, north to the park pond. (even the permit area ANSWER never had the guts to occupy, snicker-snicker)Though we had several groups of anti-war marchers come down the road, parallel to the Reflecting Pool, we contained them to the road.
Each patrol team had a photographer, to collect photographic evidence, in case of anti-war legal infractions. A radio operator, to keep constant contact with our GOE patrol base and a cell phone operator, who could contact the DC Police and/or Park Police, in case we witnessed illegal acts by the anti-war radicals.
I went to DC with a contingent of ex-Marines (I served in the Army, `73-`75) to attend GOE1. After returning I and another fellow traveler, Chris, assumed the leadership of the Michigan GOE. We have grown from 11 Michigan Patriots to a healthy organization of over 50 members. We have made appearances at Purdue University, IN, (a Cindy Sheehan speech, to support our Indiana Brothers & Sisters) E. Grand Rapids High School, MI (President Bush's speech) the Eaton Rapids, MI Memorial Day Parade (honoring the Gold Star Families, whom I was honored to sit with) and 3 appearances in Lansing. MI, to welcome Charlie Co, 1/24th Marines home, Operation America Rising and the Families United Dinner, just last weekend. We are presently organizing a contingent to attend GOE3 and urging ALL our members to flood our Senators and Congressmen, with messages, to support further funding of our presently serving troops in Iraq and Afganistan.
