It Takes a... Government?

Justin Higgins — Tue, 2007-09-04 17:31

What happens if you take a strong sense of family values and apply a socialistic big-government spin to it? Why, that'd be liberal former Republican Mike Bloomberg's plan for strengthening the family! This plan is the bastard child of Santorum and Hillary's plans for the family. Malkin is blogging on it:

Paying kids for good grades is a popular (if questionable) parenting tactic. But when school starts next week, New York City will try to use the same enticement to get parents in low-income neighborhoods more involved in their children’s education and overall health. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has raised more than $40 million (much of it from his own money and the Rockefeller Foundation) to pay families a modest amount for small tasks—$50 for getting a library card or $100 to take a child to the dentist—that could make a big difference.

What about middle class parents who neglect their children? What about the upper class parents who delegate their parenting duties to servants? Not only is this plan unbalanced, it's idiotic. Government money shouldn't strengthen the family by rewarding parents for basic parenting skills, the family should be strengthened by government policies that foster growth.

How about-

-Government programs that allow people to see the realization that their lives would be better off without the albatross of offspring hanging around their necks? This is what you get with this culture of family that the government and religion foster for all the classes, rich and poor and in the middle. Anyone and everyone thinks having children is what they're supposed to do, once thet get to a certain age or find themselves 'in love'.

You don't want abortion, you don't want condoms given out to school kids, this is what you get. Fuckwads too poor and too stupid to think the dentist and libaray cards aren't worth going to or getting without a payday.

Go to a mall on any given weekend, and you'll see people from all income strata who shouldn't be breeding and shouldn't have kids.

If the money comes from Bloomy-berg's pocket and the Rocka'fella's, why do you care anyway? Private organizations and and the Mayor McMillionaire taking from his own pocket really isn't 'Big Government'.
