Hugo Forever

Justin Higgins — Fri, 2007-11-02 19:30

Hugo Chavez is a socialist, and a wannabe communist. He's Fidel Castro lite, with a few fewer totalitarian tendencies and a few more annoying quirks. He still kills people, though not as many, and still takes away freedoms. His power grab is succeeding:

Venezuela’s National Assembly overwhelmingly gave final approval Friday to constitutional changes that would greatly expand the power of President Hugo Chavez and permit him to run for re-election indefinitely.

The assembly approved 69 amendments with all but seven of the 167 lawmakers raising their hands in favor of the changes, which threaten to spur fresh political upheaval in this oil-rich South American nation.

“Today the Venezuelan people have a pencil in their hands to write their own history, and it’s not going to be the history of the elite,” said pro-Chavez lawmaker Earle Herrera amid applause.

Will the United States take any action to prevent the socialization of Venezuela? Will the U.S. take any action that will prevent the loss of a continent to dictators, socialists, and tyrants? We can only hope.

Everybody in their place

Allan Strickland — Sat, 2007-11-03 13:30

Chavez is almost insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

In the history of man, there was once when mankind was unified in history, culture and language.

Gen 11:1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.

God did not intend for man to become as gods, nor did he intend for them to speak one language and live in unity of tribe and culture; but rather, to live separately, in peaceful enclaves of like-minded peoples, unified each according to their own language and culture - so he did something about it.

Gen 11:6 The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
Gen 11:7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."

What exactly did God impose upon the lands of His creation, and the men created in His image?

Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
Gen 11:9 That is why it was called Babel -because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

God created a place for everybody, and put everybody in their place.

There can be accord between dissimilar people, but there can be no unity between them. It's hard enough to maintain unity (of thought, purpose, ideology, mission, or what have you) even among direct family members! The solution, according to God's example, is to part ways and live your life among people of similar thought. Perhaps you will go out into the world and find them; or maybe they will come out of the world and find you. Either way, it is God's will that people share the earth each to a place of his own.

Borders, language, and culture.

A place for everybody, and everybody in their place.

This is how you know where you belong.

This may be a topic more appropriate for a philosophical debate about immigration or multiculturalism, but I found myself exploring this topic when inspired by the Chavez discussion to research this scripture:

Rev 20:9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city He loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

In one simple-sounding sentence, the end of an era in mankind's twisted past comes to an end. The camp of God's people is, of course, Israel, where the "city He loves" is Jerusalem in Israel, I assume. You flip back a few chapters in the Bible and you find this:

Rev 16:18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.

This earthquake has clearly defined consequences:

Rev 16:19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.

Now, the table is set for the REAL "war to end all wars." The cities of the nations have collapsed. This is something everyone feared would happen during a MAD nuclear exchange (Mutually Assured Destruction) and formed the sum of our Cold War fears. Add lawless anarchy to an already-Godless world and the end result is somewhat predictable. Moreover, "God remembered Babylon the Great." They're talking about a unified people: Unified in mission and ideology. That mission is, of course, the encirclement and destruction of Israel seen in Rev. 20:9.

Some pretty interesting things happen between the earthquake in Rev. 16:19 and the war in Rev. 20:9, but we'll leave that out for now. The key is to understand that it will be an earthquake, not a fist-pumping lunatic from a backwards third-world country that will bring us to our destruction. Until then, we are as Lot: Inhabiting a world of almost unimaginable sin and filth - yet we plead with God first to spare us the destruction the peoples of our world have earned; then, like Lot, to escape with our very lives at the behest of angels. In other words, we are fighting a "holding operation" for our own sakes.

Once you've analyzed everything, you will find that life can be as simple as some basic principles. Remember: A place for everybody, and everybody in their place.

This is the good work of the bloggers. Keep it up, Justin (and others) - for the sake of just ten righteous people, God will spare a whole city and probably even what's left of our bruised and haggard country (and its Constitution).

A Dictator is a Dictator-

looneyontheleft — Fri, 2007-11-02 21:22

-this seems to be the same BS that Putin is up to in Russia (you know, the guy who is more than likely killing contrary journalists and locking up political rivals). What will be interesting is to see who is made out to be the larger threat and who the US government will be more eager to stop.

I got ten bucks that says President Hillary or Prezidant Oh-bah-mah will send US soliders to Caracas or Havana way before Moscow.
