The Redacted Controversy
Justin Higgins — Sun, 2007-11-18 15:06
There's a new film hitting the theaters called Redacted. The movie is a blatantly anti-war film, which focuses on one of the most negative incidents of the Iraq War, for the specific purpose of turning the American people against the war. A short synopsis of the film, Hot Air has been leading the charge on a boycott of the film, along with a site called Boycott Redacted. One group that I consider myself a member of, Gathering of Eagles, has also been outspoken. The most recent outrage in the controversy is this ad:
What's so outrageous about that ad? It aired during the O'Reilly Factor on FOX News Channel, and O'Reilly has been an outspoken critic of the film. Why the ad was allowed to run in that spot is beyond me, but I can bet it had to do with Mark Cuban spending a lot of cash on it. Once again, Hot Air has the coverage.
Want to do something about it? Sign the Boycott Petition, and make your voice heard by telling your friends and family to do the same. Anti-troop propoganda shouldn't be ignored.

During a New York Film
dcop123 — Tue, 2009-10-13 03:58During a New York Film Festival press conference for the film, De Palma mentioned that Redacted is itself redacted, due to Magnolia Pictures owner Mark Cuban "being disturbed" by the ending photo montage's imagery. A voice from the audience called out "That's not true"; with the speaker identifying himself as Eamonn Bowles, president of Magnolia Pictures.

mea.t.brai.n (not verified) — Sun, 2007-11-25 09:45Now I understand. Justin is simply being one of Bill O'Reilly's good little parrots...
via The People's Republic of Seabrook...
"As some of you know, BOR [Bill O’Reilly] has been screeching and peeing himself about Redacted (directed by Brian De Palma, produced by Mark Cuban), which tells a fictionalized version of the Al-Mahmudiyah massacre where a group of American soldiers raped a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killed members of her family. As expected, BOR dredged up the republican “endangering the soldiers/hurting America” clichés . See, US soldiers actually raping and murdering a young girl and killing her family is fine, but news reports and a movie’s adaptation of it endangers soldiers."
It's not what the soldiers did that is the problem... it's the fact the we talk about it that is the problem. Does that pretty much sum up your views on the matter, Justin?

looneyontheleft — Mon, 2007-11-19 13:25-they killed her family as well.
And?
mea.t.brai.n (not verified) — Mon, 2007-11-19 05:59So, if the incident actually happened, what's the problem with making a movie about it?
A Rape & Murder
Justin Higgins — Sun, 2007-11-18 22:27It was the rape of a 14 year old girl I believe.
The incident
mea.t.brai.n (not verified) — Sun, 2007-11-18 22:20What was that 'negative incident', Justin?
Do you even have the guts to discuss it?
Or will this comment, also, be redacted?
