When Fascism Comes...

Ron Paul is getting absolutely ridiculous. Just ask for his statement on Mike Huckabee's Christmas message, and he'll start spouting leftist rhetoric about the stepping stones to fascism. Ignore the fact that both Hitler and Moussolini were both socialists before their transition to totalitarianism...

"Christmas message"?

No, dude, that was a campaign ad. Says so at the end. And a campaign ad, using Christian iconography, is what the Hero of the True Glorious Conservative Revolutionary Base was asked about.

"...Showed the power of the internet. Can he translate those cash amounts into votes?"

When the topic of the mainstream media's framing of candidates into familar, and easily ignored caricatures comes up, can we use this as an example? That quote sure sounds exactly like what these news channel empty heads were dropping regarding Howard Dean oh those many years ago.

I don't agree-

-with everything in that vid I posted, particularly when he gets to talking about Bush and the Patriot Act, but the music sure is cool! And cops in body armor are always a swell image to look at to a mellow, techy beat.

I am enjoying-

-all of these terms and uses for the word 'socialism' tossed around here today, especially those who would automatically equate socialism with fascism.

A 'socialist' idea like a single-payer health care system isn't going to put us all into citizen's work camps. I don't see a COMINTERN in Ottawa or Paris. There's no overly-large and money-sucking bureaucracy involved with the current profit health care system. Oh, there is? But-but-but that's okay if its in the private sector, can't have that in our gov'ment. But if ideas like this are slurred with loaded terms like 'fascist' and that much-maligned in America for the last 100 years 'socialist', well, Bob and Carol Smith in West Virginia, who pay 800 a month out of their 2200 a month combined salaries for health care for themselves and their two fat kids will continue to believe in the 'Merican Way of doing things 'cuz anything else would lead to evil!

It amuses me that the FBI used to call communists and socialists who were against Franco in the 1930s as 'Premature Anti-Fascists. Back when American corporate DFI was falling in every European country except Germany, where it rose up until 1939. These facts make me heads hurt.

Anyway, here's more fun with fascism!
(You may have to turn the sound up a little on your computer)

yeah, but-

-Those two, were they unable to get the backing that put them in control of their countries and on the world stage, how would things have been different?

Backing that with no question would never have been given to a socialist leader.

Had they remained socialists, they would have remained just like the other hundreds of thousands of socialists in post-war Italy and Weimer Germany, nameless and forgotten by history.

Huckabee's Socialism

You undermine your own point by pointing out that Hitler and Mussolini were socialist before they were fascist. Huckabee, as Ron Paul states, isn't fascist. He is however a christian socialist. He has embraced "reform" via big government just as socialists have. We in America don't recognize christian socialists because they have been until recently largely a European phenomena. We don't have the experience with them. Tax Hike Mike didn't get that name for no reason.

Socialism -> Totalitarianism

Which brings me to an interesting alternate history question. Had the two remained socialists, would the second world war had happened?

As Hayek explained in The Road to Serfdom, socialism and all other forms of central planning inevitably lead to totalitarianism; you simply can't avoid it.

Fascism?

I am-

-far from a Paulidiot, he immediately says he doesn't think Huckabee is a fascist. I think he just said the first thing to come into that cute litte round head of his.

Let's not forget that religion was a very important part of German fascism. I think Luftwaffe jets had more crosses than swaztikas. And nationalism is part and parcel part of fascism. Old Sinclair's chestnut about American fascism really isn't too much of a stretch, and should be part of the 'rhetoric' of both the left and the right. Contrary to the gumflapping of most of the harmless, online right, I would think all of you would be worried about a dictator coming into power here.

Good point and Hitler and Moussolini. If they remained socialists, they never would have gotten all of that Italian factory owner support and cash (Muss) or all of that German and American Business capital (Hit). Leaning far-right was the best way to further their careers.

Which brings me to an interesting alternate history question. Had the two remained socialists, would the second world war had happened?
