Justin on Fred: Tancredo's Endorsement

ROTR- Justin Higgins on Fred Thompson

This is Justin on Fred, a new running commentary series I'm going to be presenting here on ROTR on a regular basis. I intend to prove to you that Thompson is the only hope for the United States. My first piece is about Tancredo's endorsement of Romney, which was absolutely idiotic. Hot Air has Tancredo's speech, while Steve King is replying on behalf of the Thompson campaign. Here's a transcript of this piece:

Hi. This is Justin from Right on the Right.

This is a new audio series entitled Justin on Fred, where I'm going to make the case that Fred Thompson can be, should be, and needs to be the next President of the United States.

Congressman Tom Tancredo, one of the most prominent defenders of American sovereignty, dropped out of the Presidential race today, and endorsed Mitt Romney. His colleague, Steve King, another anti-illegal stalwart in Congress, has already endorsed Fred Thompson, and responded to the Tancredo endorsement on behalf of the Thompson campaign. King was a gentleman, saying that Tanc ran a good race, yadda yadda yadda. I love King, but the Thompson campaign needs to come out with fighting words. Mitt allowed Boston to stay a sanctuary city and receive state funding, Giuliani was the mayor OF a sanctuary city, John McCain literally writes the bills on amnesty, and Mike Huckabee is so far off-base on immigration that he said the struggle to maintain our borders was rooted in racism. Talk about non-Conservatism.

Fred has the moral high ground on the issue, and he DESERVED the Tancredo endorsement. Tom, I know you want to beat Huck, but you're abandoning your principles. You made the wrong call. Fred Thompson will secure the borders, beat the terrorists, and punch the hippies. Alright, the Conservative blogosphere added the last part. But to my readers, and other bloggers, I present to you, for your consideration, the true Conservative of 2008, Fred Dalton Thompson.

On a closing note, to the great blogger Ace, I think you're naive in picking Mitt and abandoning Thompson this early in the race. Fredmentum is building, and big name bloggers will help. Help power the machine that can and will win Iowa.

Tancredo's choice

Justin - Boston was never a sanctuary city. Neighboring Cambridge adopted a resolution declaring that they were, as did two towns which have open town meetings.

While as Governor Mitt Romney could deplore their actions - and did - legally there was nothing he could do, as municipalities have the right to set policies, the same way states can. Any municipal program which got state money - driver's licenses, professional licenses, etc. - still required proof of citizenship. He was a Governor, not a despot.

Rudy's situation was a little different - New York was a sanctuary city through his direct executive order, similar to the way the Cambridge city council acted. The Governor of New York couldn't revoke Rudy's action, either.

As President,Romney would be in a postion to intercept Federal money, and has said he would do so. Tancredo investigated this, and came to the conclusion that the Boston Globe was pushing half-truths to squelch Mitt. I hope you do to.
