McCain Still Supports a Special Pathway
- Posted by Justin Higgins on January 24th, 2008 in
John McCain is still using the tired "I'm not going to call a solder in Iraq and tell them I'm deporting their mother" lines, which is absolutely ridiculous. He uses the phrase "compassion" and says "we can all sit down and work this out." Basically, he's shilling for the same "compressive" plan. Here's the video and key piece of transcript:
Roberts: "But would you still put these undocumented aliens on a path to citizenship? The ones who remain in the country?"
Sen. McCain: "It depends. It depends on what their behavior has been. How long they've been here. They must pay a fine, they must go to the back of the line, they have to take tests, they have to do -- some may have to go back to the country they came from immediately. Some may have to go back to the country they came from before they would be eligible to come back. We can sit down and work this out. I mean, we can get this thing done, but no amnesty, and secure the borders first. We can -- we all know we can get this thing done, but we have to secure our borders so we're not faced with 12 million more people here illegally five or ten years from now."

Big hugs!
See everybody? On some issues we can agree.
This right/wrong, left/right, conservative/liberal biz'ness sometimes serves just to make sure we're all fighting amongst ourselves so that nothing can get done, so that no pressure can be applied to OUR leaders to make changes on the way things are run.
And this is the only time? :(
Oh well, I'll take what I can get.
For once I agree with Looney
According to a 12/26/06 article in the Boston Globe, The Pentagon is looking into recruiting for the armed forces OUTSIDE the US. Currently: "Pentagon policy stipulates that only immigrants legally residing in the United States are eligible to enlist. There are currently about 30,000 noncitizens who serve in the US armed forces, making up about 2 percent of the active-duty force, according to statistics from the military and the Council on Foreign Relations. About 100 noncitizens have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A recent change in US law, however, gave the Pentagon authority to bring immigrants to the United States if it determines it is vital to national security. So far, the Pentagon has not taken advantage of it, but the calls are growing to take use the new authority."
You're right, Looney, Rome fell when they recriuted foreigners for their army (slaves?). They also devalued their money to next to zero (as the US has been doing). We don't have much time left!
Nope
"Basically your argument is that every illegal alien should be legalized because 1, yes 1, might be the mother of a soldier."
I've never made that argument. Poor stupid Digger is itself is using a straw man argument, and knows it.
Straw Man
The "mother of a soldier" argument is a straw man. Basically your argument is that every illegal alien should be legalized because 1, yes 1, might be the mother of a soldier.
That is a straw man argument.
All illegals should be refused work and therefore self deport back to their home countries and apply legally.
For the single cases of "a mother of a soldier" maybe special exceptions may be made, but to argue that they all should remain because of one is simply ridiculous.
Hiding behind the law
In short, you have no consideration whatsoever for the soldier's own anguish over the forcible destruction of his family. You are only to happy to hide behind the law as an excuse for inflicting agony on a soldier.
Why does that not surprise anyone?
My answer
Respect for the law is one of my moral principles, so that is my moral justification.
Answer the question that was asked
I did not ask you for the legal justification, Justin. What is the moral justification for your position?
My answers
I would say that the United States is a nation founded on laws, and if you disobey those laws, such as violating our sovereign borders, you will be punished. I would thank the soldier for his service and tell him that he knows the rule of law and rules of the United States better than anyone else.
Next questions
What is the moral justification for your position?
What would you say to the soldier?
Yes
I think it is morally acceptable to deport an ILLEGAL alien who was the mother of a soldier serving in Iraq.
And-
-Is it morally acceptable to use citizenship as a carrot to get non-citizens to fight for the US?
Is that program still in effect? Awhile back, I read that there were 30,000 noncitizens in the armed forces.
Isn't that what Rome did? Back before that empire fell apart.
WWJD?
So, Justin: Would you find it morally acceptable to deport an undocumented alien who was the mother of a soldier currently serving in Iraq?
It's a simple yes or no question, Justin. It's gonna be real interesting to find out if you have the stones to answer it.
