Paul Facing Uphill Climb

Ron Paul is facing an uphill climb if he wants to win his party's nomination. No, I'm not talking about his Presidential bid, I'm talking about his Congressional race. The FDH Lounge has the big news. Paul's getting out:
Troubled by internal polls showing insurgent challenger Chris Peden having pulled ahead shockingly in the Texas 14th congressional district, Congressman Ron Paul will be pulling out of the Republican presidential race in advance of his home state's March 4 primary, The FDH Lounge blog has learned.
My own source backs this up. Paul's campaign is looking at internal numbers showing Peden with a 43-32 lead over Paul, with the primary just weeks away. Conservatives have been rallying to Peden, including the folks at RedState, in an attempt to oust the anti-war flamethrower. 11 points with three weeks to go. You have to like those odds. Peden has been added to my slatecard of candidates to support, so throw him some love if you despise the Ron Paul anti-Republican contingent as much as the rest of us.

The kind of destruction McCain will bring to the Republican party is akin to the kind of destruction going on at the Orange Bowl, a controlled demolition of a decrepit and obsolete structure to make way for a modern facility. It's really sad that an actual conservative like Ron Paul gets vilified by his own party, while a RINO like McCain runs away with the nomination. If Paul loses his seat then who is next? Tom Coburn? Jeff Flake? Maybe you guys can get Joe Lieberman to run as VP. Hell, he's probably more conservative than most of the GOP. Is it any surprise that Republican primary turnout has been so dismal? I don't know anything about anything, but I heard this cool catchphrase: "Ron Paul is crazy." Heh. Sounds pretty cool. Can't really see why, but who can argue with "crazy?"
What if the media(i.e., the mouthpiece of corporations and the government) is building a simple mental association between two things (A) and (B)? The most basic propaganda ever. It works. One thing equals another. No supporting evidence required. Basic mental association and nothing more. It has a wonderful effect, though. It keeps a large percentage of the sheep from pulling a lever pre-associated with "craziness." The masses are too mentally lazy to do their homework. Mission accomplished. [Another easy example: Fox News is fair and balanced.]

What I find so disconcerting is that Republicans have been brainwashed into thinking "WAR" is a republican Ideal. All this war has done is created bigger government, killed 100,000's of civilians and thousands of Americans. "IF" the goal of the war was to win, why didn't we just declare war, win and get out? Cause the idea was never to win, the idea was to nation build.
I use to be a brainwashed neo-con until I realized that THESE SAME neocons supported international treaties that subverted our sovereignty (these same laws will enable the UN to TAX US!!!), allowed for open borders (more illegals have crossed our borders during Bush's reign than ANY OTHER TIME in history). He serves on the House Banking Committee. He's read the Constitution, and thinks it is a good thing. He wants peace and prosperity through a sound monetary policy and a non-interventionist foreign policy. He believes in the rule of law. Nothing too crazy sounding there.
So, just exactly what would constitute crazy? Sirs, Justin Higgins, you obviously are as ignorant as you are incorrect. If something doesn't change for the better in this country, we are going to suffer.
Think of your families before you speak. If the economy continues on its current course, your family could be facing starvation, dismemberment even death at the hands of your own fellow Americans who could become so desperate as to kill you and your loved ones in order to feed their own families. Is that when you'll see that you are the crazy ones?
Think L.A. Riots x1000. People with nothing left to lose can do some really crazy things. Of course, in such a situation, foreign troops may need to be called in to "keep the peace". Crazy, huh? Just like $4.00 a gal. gasoline crazy.
Maybe that won't happen, instead China and Russia will just get sick of us and send us into history in an atomic fury. Just a couple of weeks ago, Putin said he would use a pre-emptive nuclear strike to prevent anyone from attacking their allies - read Iran. Only last week, the NY Times ran a story proclaiming that American Hegemony has been lost and that it is a whole new ball game.
Anyone with half a clue about history knows what to expect. Paul is attempting to keep those things from happening. What is so crazy about that? Oops! I almost forgot that you don't even have half a clue.
Maybe you are right, maybe he is crazy. Crazy enough to think that you care enough to stop worshiping a flag in patriotic frenzy, and just take a moment to remember what that flag stands for in the first place.
I still care enough to share with you, yet you will neither listen nor understand until it is far too late to do anything. You will wake up one day and ask, "Where did my country go?" and there will be nothing but empty silence. You were not deaf but just wouldn't listen when it mattered.

Ron Paul is only anti-republican if you turn a blind eye towards your party's own platform. Not only is Ron Paul the only acceptable heir to the legacy of Goldwater and Reagan, he is the ONLY Republican presidential candidate who is bringing people back into the party who were smart enough to realize that the Old Right had been replaced by the Neo-conservatives. He is making the tent bigger, and he is doing it by sticking to the true principles of conservatism and the Constitution (which ought to be the same).

If any politician is truly against government power, he's going to have the kind of people you name behind him no matter what he does, whether he likes them or not. It's a signal, you know, like when the New York Times endorses McCain it's a signal about what McCain stands for.
If Ron Paul has as supporters the kind of people who despise the government, that just means he's on the right track. Having those supporters says nothing else about Paul. The exercise of determining what the NYT endorsement of McCain means is left to the reader.
If you guys were actually limited government conservatives, you would be backing Paul, because neither Huckabee or McCain are even remotely concerned about limited government.
I'm not even for Paul's stance on the war, but the most important thing we can do right now as a nation is get our own house in order by getting our government back under our control. Well hell - Ron Paul was my representative until the most recent redistricting. I really hate it that I won;t get to vote for his opponent in the primary. Truthfully, I don't even care who his challenger is....

I don't hate Ron Paul. He is the only conservative left in the race and though he has many real good foreign policy plans I can't get my arms around his war stance.
If he ran as an Independent I would probably vote for him over McCain.
If he loses that seat in Texas he might run as an Independent.
BTW, I read he was not dropping out. He said he was not concentrating on anything but his district until after it votes. He might have changed his mind though especially with an 11 point deficit.
