Akron Beacon Journal Endorses Schuring

Kirk Schuring, the Republican I endorsed for Ohio's 16th, has been endorsed by the Akron Beacon Journal. Matt Hurley has the news and some of his own analysis. Here's some of the actual text of the endorsement:

ROTR- Kirk Schuring for CongressWe recommend the election of Kirk Schuring on March 4.

Schuring, 55, is serving his second, four-year term in the Ohio Senate. He spent the previous decade in the Ohio House. What Schuring offers is a moderate, pragmatic style. He works effectively with diverse interests. Among his accomplishments is legislation that expanded statewide the use of joint economic development districts. He has developed a plan for school funding that invites serious conversation. He would carve out a separate education budget.

In this race, Schuring correctly stresses the key role that education and technology must play in turning around the economy. He envisions a national strategy that would provide incentives for regions to build on existing strengths.

Normally the word moderate would set off red flags coming from a traditional media outlet, but I'm confident Schuring stands for strong Republican values. He signed a pledge against tax increases, for example. He should do very well in his Primary Election, and I have faith he'll keep the district in our column in November.

If Schuring's the Republican

If Schuring's the Republican nominee, Boccieri will be the more conservative candidate in the fall. Boccieri has voted for less tax increases, has a better pro-life rating and has accepted less money from pro-abortion special interest groups than Schuring. Schuring would be an awful nominee.

BE SERIOUS!

Moderate?! Schuring is not moderate; he's a LIBERAL!

That "pledge" he signed will be broken in the first month. This guy is a Bob Taft supporting tax hike liberal, and this blog has lost all of its credibility. It's a mouthpiece for the Braden's and Jo Ann Davidson's of the world.

This whole election year makes me sick. Between McCain and his "give the country away to illegal aliens" attitude in the Senate, and the way Schuring has been able to convince all these useful idiots that he's a conservative, we have no right wing party left in the United States.
