Attempted Arson, Attempted Murder... And Treason

Justin Higgins — Thu, 2008-03-06 12:45

Update: Several readers are telling me that I could add a plethora of charges to the list, and I agree, but my main point was emphasizing that treason should be included. Also, I've been asked why I included attempted murder, when the recruiting station was empty. While it was early, the attacker couldn't be sure the area would be clear or empty, so given that the bomb could've killed, attempted murder should be on the list of charges.

In case you haven't heard, early this morning someone tossed an explosive at a Military Recruitment Center in Times Square. Whoever is found responsible should be tried for attempted arson, attempted murder, and something our government is unwilling to prosecute with, treason. An attack on the United States military is simply that, treason. The news from the Boston Herald:

ROTR- Attack at Recruitment Center in Times SquareAn explosive device caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above.

Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m., shattering the station’s glass entryway. No one was injured.

“If it is something that’s directed toward American troops than it’s something that’s taken very seriously and is pretty unfortunate,” said Army Capt. Charlie Jaquillard, who is the commander of Army recruiting in Manhattan.

This was no small attack. People blocks away said they felt the blast, which apparently shook the building and builings nearby. All of the major military branches used this building to recruit. As I said, attempted arson, attempted murder, and treason.

-It could be some sort of rightist, 'America First'-er who doesn't like his or her country spreading the military all around the world, in conflicts that he or she doesn't think had a lick to do with safeguarding America.

I'm sure there are those kinds of traitors somewhere on that range of the political spectrum. Remember, American history is full of rightists who protested and attacked their own country for various reasons.

Very unlikely I admit, but I just wanted to counter your need to attack 'the left'. Devil's advocate I remain...

Bet on the Left

It doesn't sound like foreign-born terrorists at work here, but more like the home-grown Berserkely/Code Pinko variety. Jihadists usually choose a target more populated or more Jewish, often blowing up one of their own in the process. Leftist/traitors choose their traditional enemies (their own country) and do things symbolically, then use on the "we didn't mean to hurt anyone" defense when they are caught.
