South American Thug Backs Down

ROTR- Hugo Chavez Backs DownThere have been quite a few stories running over the past week or so about Hugo Chavez gearing up for war in South America. The good news today, is that the thug is backing down, probably because the prospect of cruise missiles crashing into Caracas got to his head. Brazil wasn't too happy about Chavez's decisions either. The toning down, via FOX News:

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Heated accusatiosn broke out Friday at a Latin American summit over a border crisis between Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, but the crisis appears to be over after the three countries' presidents exchanged handshakes.

FOX News' Adam Housley, reporting from the summit in the Dominican Republic, said the three leaders declared the standoff over and called for peace.

The longer we witness his thuggery, the more it appears that Chavez is all bluster and no substance. He's unwilling to go to war, which is a very good thing for the rest of us, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take him seriously. He's still a neo-socialist thug.

An Update on the Thuggary

From my understanding...

From my understanding these "rebel leaders." I love how FARC terrorists are called this by the way. But anyways, from my understanding they were being tracked from inside Colombia and into Ecuador. That would indeed be hot pursuit.

Hot Pursuit!!

Well then Justin, the only exception would be "hot pursuit". Can Colombia prove they where in "hot pursuit"? From what I've read they cannot.

Again:

Colombia’s attack was a flagrant violation of Ecuador’s sovereignty. “Hot pursuit” was Colombia’s only possible defense. There is no right in international law to engage in military attacks into another country with which you are not at war if it is not an immediate continuation of an engagement that began within your borders (unless your action is explicitly authorized by the UN Security Council.)

I read it

I read your view of the situation, and it seemed obvious to me that the Colombian government was well within the realm of "hot pursuit" in taking down the terrorists in Ecuador.

Sigh!

I guess you didn't actually watch and/or read my previous post. Nice demonization of Chavez though. Please watch and/or read my previous post for a more balanced reporting of the situation.
