Obama's Pastor: God Damn America

Justin Higgins — Thu, 2008-03-13 15:34

Update: I've been made aware that Reverend Wright has since retired, but that doesn't change the nature of the church. Barack clearly attended the church during Wright's tenure, and still needs to clarify the message. The biggest thing is, Wright needs to be removed from his role in Barack's campaign.

A lot of phrases have been floating around in the last couple months describing Barack Obama's church. "Black seperatist" and "black power" were two of the phrases used most often. Now, thanks to Stop the ACLU and other sites covering this story, we can see just exactly what this church is about. Here's a news report about it:

You might say, that's just one sermon, but Yahoo has video of another of Pastor Wright's messages, and FOX News has a transcript of it. Inflammatory is the best word to describe the message:

During a Christmas sermon, Wright tried to compare Obama’s upbringing to Jesus at the hands of the Romans.

“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people,” Wright said. “Hillary would never know that.

“Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.”

Barack Obama needs to step out, soon, and condemn the words of his own pastor. If Barack believes this deeply racist rhetoric, there's trouble, and this video makes it obvious that some of his followers are the ones pushing the issue of race on the campaign trail. Condemn Reverend Wright.

The crucial difference

me.at.br.ain (not verified) — Thu, 2008-03-13 20:11

From The Carpetbagger Report, February 29th, 2008:

--- begin quote ---

In 2000, John McCain excoriated George W. Bush for kicking off his campaign in South Carolina at Bob Jones University, visiting the campus and delivering a speech to the student body. McCain assailed the appearance, arguing that Bush’s uncritical speech at BJU — a school with a record of anti-Catholic bigotry — was tantamount to an endorsement of the school’s policies. The McCain campaign even made “Catholic Alert” phone calls denouncing Bush for the appearance.

Eight years later, McCain’s tolerance for anti-Catholic bigots has changed considerably.

We talked yesterday about evangelist John Hagee, who endorsed McCain this week, and whose support McCain has been anxious to trumpet. Given some of Hagee’s bizarre ideas, it seems odd the media has been willing to give McCain a pass on his new buddy.

But yesterday afternoon, there was a new, even more salient angle to consider: McCain hadn’t just cozied up to a radical mega-church evangelist, he’d teamed up with a notorious anti-Catholic extremist.

The president of the Catholic League today blasted Sen. John McCain for accepting the endorsement of Texas evangelist John Hagee, calling the controversial pastor a bigot who has “waged an unrelenting war against the Catholic Church.”

Hagee, who is known for his crusading support of Israel, backed McCain’s presidential bid Wednesday, standing next to the senator at a hotel in San Antonio and calling McCain “a man of principle.”

But Catholic League President Bill Donohue said in a statement today that Hagee has written extensively in negative ways about the Catholic Church, “calling it ‘The Great Whore,’ an ‘apostate church,’ the ‘anti-Christ,’ and a ‘false cult system.’”

“Senator Obama has repudiated the endorsement of Louis Farrakhan, another bigot. McCain should follow suit and retract his embrace of Hagee,” Donohue said.

--- end quote ---

You plan on demanding that McCain repudiate his association with Hagee, lying little warpimp?

Of course not. Why? Cause Hagee and McCain are white, that's why.

Spare us your faux outrage, bigoted fuddpucker.

Glenn Greenwald:

"White evangelical Ministers are free to advocate American wars based on Biblical mandates, rant hatefully against Islam, and argue that natural disasters occur because God hates gay people. They are still fit for good company, an important and cherished part of our mainstream American political system. The entire GOP establishment is permitted actively to lavish them with praise and court their support without the slightest backlash or controversy. Both George Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert sent formal greetings to the 2006 gathering of Hagee's group.

By contrast, black Muslim ministers like Farrakhan, or even black Christian ministers like Rev. Jeremiah Wright, are held with deep suspicion, even contempt. McCain is free to hug and praise the Rev. Hagees of the world, but Obama is required to prove over and over and over and over that he does not share the more extreme views of black Ministers."
