When Barack Obama released his statement condemning some of Reverend Wright's sermons, I said that it wasn't enough. Since then, the Obama campaign has taken the step I was looking for, and Wright has left the campaign, although we're not sure if it was by choice or by force:

Spokesman Tommy Vietor emails:

"Rev. Wright is no longer serving on the African American Religious Leadership Committee."

That cuts Wright's only formal tie to Obama, and answers what was sure to be a question in Obama's interviews tonight: If Geraldine Ferraro had to leave the Clinton campaign, why is Wright different.

If Barack Obama forced Wright out, his campaign either showed some courage or was afraid of further backlash. If Wright left on his own, he obviously realized the damage he was doing to Barack's bid. Either way, it's good news that this racist flamethrower is no longer advising the potential leader of the free world.
