Socialism

Mitch Albom and Government Socialism.

Ben Graham — Mon, 2009-06-08 20:11

I don't normally listen to liberal talk show hosts because just listening to them raises my blood pressure. But a couple of days ago I was riding in the car and decided to turn on the radio even though I knew that Liberal blowhard Mitch Albom would be on.

Here in Michigan Albom has been doing sports commentary for awhile, and you may know him from his books and plays including Tuesday's With Morrie. Now I have no problem with him doing sport commentary, in fact he seems to be pretty good at it. But in the last few years he show has become more of a Liberal political talk show then sports commentary.

But when I turned on the radio Albom was talking about the government takeover of the auto industry. The station he is with is out of Detroit so this is a big issue with listeners. He went on and on about how the government wasn't going to socialism and how just taking over the auto industry wasn't socializing the U.S. because it was just one small part of the country.

The thing is, he even admitted that 25% of U.S. jobs are connected to the auto industry. Lets see what else has the government taken over? Oh yes, the banks, insurance companies, and will be taking over health care.
Jenifer Granholm my wonderful, Liberal, Socialist, Canadian Governor says:

The auto industry supports one of every 10 jobs in the United States.

I'm not sure if this statistic is true, but Mitch Albom supports Governor Granholm so I'm sure he believes it. 1 out of every 10 jobs! That equals 10% of U.S. jobs!

How about health care?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

In 2006, health care provided 14 million jobs—13.6 million jobs for wage and salary workers and about 438,000 jobs for the self-employed.

Health Care amounts to another 10% of jobs.

Banking is the biggest of all of them. Not because there are tons of workers employed by banks. But because the banks control the money. When a person want to start a new company what do they do? They get a loan. If someone wants to buy a house. What do they do? They get a loan. So with the government having a major stake in banking they are really controlling all of the money that flows into our economy.

Mitch Albom said on his show that the government isn't trying to take over all businesses. Your right Mitch, they are just taking over the biggest ones and the ones that control everything!

With government health care and the takeover of the auto and banking industry the government has control of about 25% of our nations jobs. I would love to be able to ask Mitch Albom how he thinks that isn't socialism.

All Aboard the Socalist Train!

Ben Graham — Tue, 2009-03-31 12:51

This is seriously scaring the crap out of me.

If the New York Times is highlighting how unprecedented this level of government involvement is then we should all be scared:

ASHINGTON — The White House on Sunday pushed out the chairman of General Motors and instructed Chrysler to form a partnership with the Italian automaker Fiat within 30 days as conditions for receiving another much-needed round of government aid.

The decision to ask G.M.’s chairman and chief executive, Rick Wagoner, to resign caught Detroit and Washington by surprise, and it underscored the Obama administration’s determination to keep a tight rein on the companies it is bailing out — a level of government involvement in business perhaps not seen since the Great Depression.

How can the government pretty much mandate that a CEO of a private company step down? Where do they get the authority to do that?

This is the most outrageous thing that I have ever heard of! This type of government control is what is going to kill our free market economy. Pretty soon if the government doesn't like how a CEO doing they will just replace him with someone they do like.

You know what? Maybe its for the best, I bet Rick Wagoner isn't interested in taking the pay cap of 500,000$ that Obama is talking about anyway. He's going to get a much better deal then that with the pension he's getting. Now GM can just hire a cheaper (less talented) person for the position.

Gotta Love That Nanny State

Justin Higgins — Tue, 2007-12-18 15:00

Government regulations are hurting our country, whether they be in business, in labor relations, in education, or in health care. It's because of these regulations that we aren't competing globally in the energy race, and it's because of these regulations that tort reform is becoming more difficult by the day. Henry Miller, of the L.A. Times, is tackling one form of regulation:

When Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a statewide ban in October on children's toys that contain more than minuscule amounts of chemicals called phthalates, he was simply carrying on a California tradition of misguided, often damaging "health" regulations. This is, after all, a state that requires most commercial establishments, from supermarkets to pet stores to hotel lobbies, ROTR- Senator Feinsteinto display "Proposition 65" signs proclaiming that customers are being exposed to trace amounts of chemicals that can cause cancer or birth defects.

Now, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is eager to expand California's folly to the entire nation. Undeterred by the judgment of experts but swayed by a few experiments with rats and a single flawed epidemiological study, Feinstein has introduced a bill that would ban six types of phthalates in toys. These chemicals are widely used to soften plastic toys and are found in shower curtains, traffic cones and scores of other common items. They also have crucial applications in surgical instruments and intravenous tubing.

Unfortunately, Feinstein's legislation ignores the basic principles of toxicology. For starters, a rat's metabolism differs significantly from a human's. Although rat studies may be useful for suggesting what sorts of toxicity to look for in humans, often they do not predict effects on humans. Indeed, the toxicity of phthalates in rats appears not to be replicated in humans or other primates.

Mr. Miller goes on to describe how the dosage of these chemicals is key to determining their toxicology, and how the chemicals are necessary in plenty of household objects. These nanny state pieces of legislation are having disastrous effects, and we need to stand against them on principle. Oppose the socialist state.
