Media Bias
Yesterday's McCain Presser
- Posted by Justin Higgins on April 23rd, 2008 in
I know that the past couple days have been all-McCain all the time, but I do have quite a bit to say. Following yesterday's town hall event, I was invited into a press conference with the Senator. All the rumors about media being ultra-liberal and only viewing things from the Democrat point of view are true. A solid chunk of the questions had to do with what John McCain thinks about the Democrats, what the Democrats think about John McCain, and if/what John McCain thinks about which Democrat he wants to match up with. That was the softball lefty stuff, and McCain shrugged off the questions by telling them that he was there to run his campaign, not comment on their campaigns.
The most interesting, and perhaps disturbing moment, came when a woman said that there were only two African-Americans at the town hall, and they were both sitting behind the Senator. First off, as someone who was there scanning the crowds, that was completely inaccurate, and secondly, how is that relevent? Well, the woman used that comment to set up a question about affirmative action, and while the nominee gave an excellent response about our military being the best equal opportunity employer and the world and quotas being wrong, you could tell she was unhappy. This is typical. Members of the press at the town hall that were working cameras would joke to each other about our nominee, and I heard one woman from a local paper call him a war-mongerer while talking to a man I believe was from the Associated Press. I might've been one of the only Conservatives in the media that was present.
President Bush Joins the Fairness Fight
- Posted by Justin Higgins on March 11th, 2008 in
The Fairness Doctrine is a failed liberal policy designed for the sole purpose of limiting Conservative viewpoints on the air. There's absolutely nothing fair about this piece of legislation. Extreme Mortman says we have big news today, because President Bush has weighed in on the fight for the first time, saying the following at a speech he gave today in Nashville:
There’s an effort afoot that would jeopardize your right to express your views on public airways. Some members of Congress want to reinstate a regulation that was repealed 20 years ago. It has the Orwellian name called the Fairness Doctrine. Supporters of this regulation say we need to mandate that any discussion of so-called controversial issues on the public airwaves includes equal time for all sides. This means that many programs wanting to stay on the air would have to meet Washington’s definition of balance. Of course, for some in Washington, the only opinions that require balancing are the ones they don’t like.
He actually mentioned the Fairness Doctrine twice in his speech. To put things in context, he was speaking to a convention of religious broadcasters, the target audience (along with other Conservatives) of this type of legislation. Still, it's good that the President is weighing in on what is an obvious assault on the First Amendment.
The McCain "Panama" Idiocy
- Posted by Justin Higgins on February 28th, 2008 in
I don't know if the New York Times is trying to derail McCain's candidacy, or throw out as many idiotic charges as possible in hopes of boosting his popularity amongst those that have brains and distrust the media. Their most recent attempt at a "drive-by" story questions whether or not McCain is eligible to run for President since he was born in the Panama Canal Zone to military parents. Their goal isn't to actually make the claim (they essentially say McCain is fine), but like a drive-by, cause chaos and get the leftists to cause a ruckus. Jim Geraghty of NRO has a response:
Having said that, a serious effort to argue that McCain is disqualified from being president will attempt to establish that a child of one American and one foreign-born parent is eligible for the presidency, but a child of two Americans, one a serving member of the U.S. Armed Forces, born in a U.S. territory (Coco Solo Air Base in the then-American-controlled Panama Canal Zone) is not.
Dear Democrats, please go down this road; Team McCain would like to ensure that their candidate's share of the military and veteran vote goes from 90 percent to 100 percent.
A second piece by Geraghty throws doubt on Obama's eligibility for possibly giving aid and comfort to a terrorist or terrorist group. It's a hard case to make, considering Obama didn't directly say he was friends with the man, but it's actually more plausible than the NYT charge.
A Pathetic Disgusting Hit Job

Hot Air has extensive coverage of the massive hit piece against John McCain that the New York Times is running. It eludes to sexual indecency and a lobbying scandal, with nothing solid and nothing substantial. To sum up how pathetic it is, Hot Air has video of Bob Bennett ripping apart the Times:
The Anti-Abortion Video YouTube Banned

I have this filed under Media Bias because YouTube is a form of media, and they're not afraid of executing their bias by banning videos. They've since rescinded their ban on this video. Hot Air has the story. Check out this great video:
